In October 2016 DUY trialled a two week experiment with 12 female residents at HMP Askham Grange, culminating in a performance to prison staff and other residents. The aim was to test the effectiveness of our methodological approach in a custodial setting.
Due to the resounding success of the pilot project, DUY conducted its second project in Askham Grange in February 2018 and is scheduled to return for a third time in early 2019. Also in 2018, DUY delivered its first project at HMP Newhall culminating with 10 residents performing to an audience of over 100 residents and prison staff.
“It was a tremendous achievement to teach complete novices how to focus, believe in themselves, have stage presence, dance, perform and pull this all together in such a short space of time – I couldn't recommend DUY more highly.”
