The Board and team are excited to announce that Dance United Yorkshire has recently become a registered charity (CIO), transitioning from our previous status as a Community Interest Company (CIC). For all day to day practical purposes, we are essentially the same organisation. The main difference is that the new constitution will help DUY to develop additional partnerships and work with more people, thanks to the wider range of potential funding support available to charities.
We are delighted that three of our original CIC non-executive directors have agreed to continue serving DUY as founding CIO Trustees:
Our Chair, Blair Davies, who is a former Chief Superintendent of Police and international consultant on democratic policing, has generously nurtured DUY since our launch in 2011. Joining the DUY board in 2017, Keira Martin is an immensely talented and versatile independent dance artist, choreographer and director of international repute. Finally, Hannah Robertshaw, an outstandingly experienced dance artist, artistic director, producer and trustee within community and youth settings, who has also supported DUY since 2017. Having been integral to the development of the company, we are hugely grateful that all three have agreed to continue with us during this exciting transitional period.
These Trustees will be joined from 1 April by Nikki Crane, another exceptional talent. Her experience encompasses strategic development with major cultural influencers including Arts Council England, Birmingham Royal Ballet, the Barbican, Youth Justice Board, National Gallery, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity and Kings College. She is an advisor to the All Parliamentary Group for Arts, Health and Wellbeing, and the Mayor’s Office London on developing arts and mental health strategies.
The collective skills, experience, passion, influence and boldness that our Trustees bring to DUY will be invaluable in helping to shape and achieve our artistic vision, whilst enhancing our governance and potential. Joining with our dedicated staff, freelance and volunteer team, the Trustees are delighted to welcome this exciting new period for Dance United Yorkshire - and we all look forward to the dynamic and creative opportunities ahead.
